Congestion management

With the introduction of Distributed Energy Resources (DER), the task of grid management has become more complex. In addition to grid operation necessities, local legal requirements should have to be taken into account.

An essential feature for every DERMS solution is congestion management, to avoid overload of lines, feeders and transformers because of too much generation from DERs. Most of the challenge is to handle widely distributed DER generation coming from the LV and MV side, causing congestion on the sensitive borders and component in higher level grid.

Congestion management should also help the network operator to increase hosting capacity, with minimum investment in physical grid upgrade.
